Project: To raise awareness for the Los Angeles River, River LA asked us to create a wearable object that represents the river and at the same time works as a conversation piece that spreads their vision.
With that specific ask, we created a limited edition wristband that captures the Los Angeles River’s roots in urban design and natural scenery by integrating actual concrete from the iconic 6th Street bridge in Downtown LA with a blue resin balance. All the bracelets were handmade by the 72U participants.
To debut the bracelet and launch the rebranding of River LA, we threw a massive interactive party in a warehouse downtown LA. The party was inspired by the history of the river from past to future.

Project: Spinphony is a bike installation made in collaboration with 72andsunnys Google team and their Made with Code initiative. Our goal was to inspire and encourage teenage girls to take an interest in coding.
So we created a musical bike installation, each of them were given a specific instrument stem of a song. For instance, bike 1 controls drums, bike 2 might control bass and so on. The way we made it all come together was to have the volume of each stem depend on the speed at which the bike was being pedaled (i.e. the slower the RPM the quieter the stem of the song and vice versa). This is where Arduino came into play.
Using two magnets, a reed switch, Arduino, RPM values and MIDI we were able to produce an amazing symphony.
We ended up making a great first prototype.

We created an exact replica of one of Gaybo’s most luxurious jewel designs, made out of delicious Belgian chocolate. A collection of selected logotypes I've made over time. Some of them are hand-made. Most are freelance projects and ad campaigns lockups. More to come!
The word that makes me feel happy, innocent and strong. The tradition that taught me to see the beauty in every moment. Growing up as a Central American kid, piñatas were a big deal. Every year I’d get to choose one for my birthday, and as that day drew closer my excitement and anticipation would build. More than a cartoon character, my piñata represented who I was at that stage of my life—my interests, my favorite color, my favorite candy. Each birthday was a celebration that marked a new milestone in my life, full of passion and color.
And as I changed through the years, so did my piñata. Born from mangled wire in an unassuming studio, a piñata becomes more alive with each layer applied to it. The wire form is covered with white paper and glue to create a hollow structure, which is then decorated with colored tissue papers to give it movement and color. Finally, it is stuffed with as many colorful candies as you can fit inside.
It’s a work of art. But with any creation comes destruction.
When you break a piñata, there are rules. The strongest and biggest kids go last, and everyone takes turns hitting it with all their might. Everyone wants to be the one to break it open. People cheer, clap, laugh, cry, scream, sigh; every emotions at play.
It’s a pure state of happiness.
You learn to enjoy every second of it, because in a few moments the piñata is destroyed. But from that destruction comes something beautiful. Candy falling from the sky! Every kid’s dream.
